A Map Joke

In honor of the Middle East Peace Conference going on now...

A guy is walking along the shoreline at the beach.

Sure enough he kicks up a bottle, pulls the cork, and out comes a genie to give him one wish.

He pulls out a map of the Middle East and asks the genie if he can bring peace to this part of the world.

The genie pales, and says, “Master, these people have been at war since time began. It is their nature, the very fiber of their lives. What you ask is totally impossible. It is probably the only wish I cannot grant you. Ask for anything else and I will make it happen.”

“OK”, the guy says, “tomorrow morning have my wife awaken me with the best blow job I’ve ever had, on her own, without my begging and pleading. Because SHE LIKES IT, because SHE WANTS TO, because IT TURNS HER ON!”

The genie shakes his head and says, “Let me see that map again.”

Peek-a-Boo Map

This is a very attractive map of the United States.

But it's difficult to see with this person standing in the way.

I can make out New England and the Mid-Atlantic states.

Now the Great Lakes come into view.

Now I can see everything!

An Appreciation of Older Things

Although she is very au courant with the latest piercings, our model shows an appreciation for fine old things. Notice the books, furniture and, of course, the old-style globe. If we're fortunate, she appreciates well-aged men as well.

Spencer's been a bad girl!

Spencer had to write "I've been a bad girl" 100 times on the blackboard. Oh, and she had to do something else. Click on the photo to see.

Tyvek: It's not just for house wrap

This world map was printed on Tyvek, a synthetic material made by DuPont. It really makes the colors "pop", and the texture of the material adds visual interest.

Of course, there are ways to add more visual interest:

School's Back

And this student may need to be punished.

Interesting Projection

This map was probably published in Australia, because it is a Pacific Ocean centered view. Most maps published in the Americas and Europe have an Atlantic ocean centered view.

Until a decade or so ago, most world maps published in the US had the US in the center, which forced the cartographers to cut Asia in half.

Back to School with Lara

Lara of 1000 Words did a post about what happened when a friend convinced her to do a series of "schoolgirl" pix. They were all great, but one of them is truly inspired and, as well, is perfect for this blog...

Somehow, I think Lara isn't focusing on her studies. Give that globe a spin, but don't get any of that sticky stuff on it!

Multi-tasking

Here's our subject at work. She's a telemarketer. She has a map of the US on the wall so she can remember whree her prospects are and work geography into the conversation. She tries to make the work interesting for herself and the customer.

But some customers are just so boring it's hard to stay focused. Then something else comes to mind. She is a true multi-tasker.

Proper Storage

It's best to store maps in a flat file rather than rolled.

Globe

Notice the big round globe in the picture below. It is unusual because it features a physical map rather than a political map.

Most reference maps, whether wall maps, world atlases or globes, are political, meaning they show boundaries and places as the main feature. Physical maps focus on the Earth's landscape and may be colored to indicate elevation or other environmental features.

In an office setting, I would think a political globe might be more appropriate, so that the young lady pictured could use it for reference. However, the globe may be there for decorative purposes, same as the young lady.

Find the map!

I love games where there's a photo and you have to find certain items in the picture. They may be right there, but somehow you don't see them. In this picture, see if you can find the map!
